Keeping your tile floors clean and shiny! | Seekonk, MA

Just like any other part of your house, you want to keep your floors looking clean, shiny, and good as new!! When it comes to tile, most people choose it because it's relatively easy to clean and maintain. Obviously, you still have to take good care of tile floors.
Vacuuming
Dirt enters your home every day, from pets, kids shoes, and just opening the door can bring in some dirt/dust.
Getting into the habit of vacuuming, dry mopping, or dusting every day is the fastest way to keep your floor looking clean! Avoid using regular or straw brooms on the tile floor, it can scratch the tile.
Using a door mat or area rug
If your entry way has tile flooring, consider placing a door mat inside and outside the door! This will help capture most of the loose dirt and debris on your shoes before you step on the floors.
Another way to prevent dirt from coming inside the other rooms, have your guests and family members take their shoes off before coming inside, that'll prevent dirt from being anywhere!
Having area rugs on flooring that is in a high traffic spot of the home will prevent any scratching of the floor and, again, prevent dirt from being tracked and built up around your home.
Mopping
Mopping your tile floors once a week will get rid of the dirt and grime from the week. Use warm water and you can add a mild detergent, or tile cleaner, just be sure to check and make sure any cleaner won't damage your tiles. Be sure to dry mop your floor after wet mopping. You don't want anyone to slip and fall!
Deep cleaning
It's recommended that you deep clean your floors twice a week. Once a week should be good if you vacuum/mop every day or every other day. If your floors get really dirty, twice a week would probably be better.
To deep clean your floors, mix together a solution of:
- 1 gallon of warm water
- 1/2 cup of white vinegar
If you don't have vinegar, you can also use rubbing alcohol.
This is a great way to clean your floors without using any harsh chemicals!
If something spilled and you need to clean up a stain, use a 1:1 ratio of scouring powder and warm water.
Grout
While we just discussed how to keep the actual tiles clean, we can't forget about the grout!
To go the simple, easy, at home solution route, you can mix together baking soda and water to create a paste. Spread the paste onto the grout and let it sit for a few hours, or even overnight. After letting the paste sit, use an old (or new) toothbrush and scrub away! Rinse with warm water and see the magic of baking soda right before your eyes LOL!!
(Seriously, we've tried this and it works amazing!!)
