Tip of the Week #2 - Cleaning Re-usable Bottles - Mansfield

If you've switched over to re-usable water bottles from single use plastic, you'll know the smell or taste of water from a not-so-clean bottle is not pleasant. To keep your water bottles and tumblers clean, it's best to wash them every day (or after each use)

• If your bottle has a screw-on top, you can just run it through the dishwasher, if it's dishwasher safe. Be sure your dishwasher runs through a drying cycle, if the bottle isn't completely dry, it can become a breeding ground for mold. 
• If you don't have a dishwasher or it can't go through, you can just wash the bottle with warm water and soap after each use. Use a towel or bottle brush to clean the inside. Be sure to dry thoroughly.
• If your bottle has a push-up top, to clean the hard to reach crevices, use a small bottle brush and clean with warm water and soap. 

Sanitizing and freshening bottles:

If your bottle still doesn't smell fresh after a wash, fill it with either 

• 1 tsp bleach & 1 gallon of water. Let soak for 5-15 minutes. Rinse until bleach smell is gone. 
• White distilled vinegar. Soak for 10 minutes. Rinse
• Hydrogen peroxide. Soak for 10 minutes. Rinse
