Although skiing and snowboarding can be loads of fun, there is always the risk of injury, but taking a few safety steps can help you and your family or friends have fun and be safe!
Most skiing or snowboarding related injuries occur during a fall or a crash. Learning how to fall correctly can help prevent you from getting any serious injuries. Click here to learn about some ways to properly brace yourself for a fall.
You should always have proper safety gear on while on the slopes. A helmet, goggles, and gloves. Even though it is cold, you should wear sunscreen as well to protect your skin from the wind and sun.
If you are feeling tired at all, you should stop what you are doing. Like driving a car, it is dangerous to continue if you're drowsy.
Some other tips to take into consideration:
- Dress in layers
- Never ski or snowboard alone
- Follow the rules of the trails
- Choose and stay on the trail that matches your skill level
- Beginners should take a lesson first
- Experienced skiers and snowboarders could also benefit from a refresher course
- Be sure you know how to get on and off the ski lift safely
